Our humanitarian action > Our intervention

Armenia

EDUCATIONAL RESTRUCTURING

Context : Mission Enfance has been working in Armenia since 1993. Many NGOs have deserted this stagnant region. Yet, humanitarian work is still necessary, subtitute for the state's totally failing social domain... We are planning the rehabilitation of two new schools in Karabagh and in Armenia. Also, facing the penury of school equipment, we are going to provide benches and tables to 4 schools rehabilitated and awaiting for rehabilitation. Taking the new Armenian laws into consideration, we are going to create in these schools, nursery classes with the necessary equipment for 6 year olds. Also in the school of Karapert that we have rehabilitated five years ago, we are planning to create and equipe an activity centre for the young people of this totally isolated village. We have noticed, throughout these 15 years of action, the children's progress. In Gumri, North of the country, the children supported by our sponsoring from the Endanik Centre are admitted to University, thanks to the sponsoring received during their schooling. The children of Boghossian Centre are preparing to become responsible adults with a solid education in a moral and intellectual alert environment, under the responsability of Sister Arousiag, founder of the Centre. Our team of 5 people intervenes in Erevan, the capital, in our French speaking game library as in the rest of Armenia by handing out each year, over 2.000 school kits to the most isolated schools, by equipping the orphanages or hospital with game libraries and by rehabilitating the school buildings of the country.

Coordination : Our projects are coordinated with the Department of Education and the of Social Affairs. Among others, the choice of the schools to rehabilitate is decided with local authorities in order to make sure that this investment will have in return a reinforcement of the teachers and state means to perpetuate our effort. Each of our project is carried outdirectly by our local team. Distribution of school kits is done personnaly, the equipment of game libraries and rehabilitations of school buildings in Karabagh and in Armenia are carried out under the management of our logistician in coordination with the villagers.

Control : A monthly report (financial and activity) is sent to the head office. A control mission takes place once a year. Finally, the local team is formed of people with 15 years experience (a coordinator, a logistician, a youth leader and two teachers).

A school awaiting rehabilitation...
after rehabilitation

Today our action concentrates on the rehabilitation of school buildings and the distribution of school kits - 2.000 per year - and the support, thanks to our sponsors, of a school in Gumri (distroyed up to 80 % during earthquake). Lastly, we welcome children for activities in the cultural centre of Erevan.

In Armenia, country victim of the cold weather, obscurity and an embargo imposed by its neighbours, the needs are numerous.

Mission Enfance with its coordinator, Levon Gasparian and team, has handed out the fuel oil necessary to the warming of the country's orphanages.

Regular aid missions to the 1.334 orphans of Karabagh
are carried out.
